Hey, do you want to talk about Lindsay Lohan getting arrested again? Good, neither do we. While many in this country are distracted by the latest celebrity gossip, we continue to have friends and comrades getting locked up and subpoenaed, and not for getting into a fight outside a swanky nightclub or bumping a pedestrian with their car. There is still an active, international fight against the state and capital and an equally active campaign to quell it. While the wealthy and their lapdog media attempt to ignore or downplay these realities, we’re still here supporting our comrades. Part of that support includes being there for those who have been locked up. And with that comes another Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner!

This week, NYC ABC is hitting the road, linking up with comrades from Occupy Astoria-LIC. In the nearly six years that we’ve been hosting our every-other-week events, we’ve held them in four of the five boroughs. You’re next, Staten Island!

On the suggestion of Occupy Astoria-LIC, this week we’ll be sending cards to Occupy-related folks who are currently locked up. You can learn about the cases of the following Occupy movement-related prisoners and write letters to them:

Pacific Northwest Grand Jury Resistors

The deal, as always, is that you come bringing only yourself (and your friends and comrades), and we provide you with a delicious vegan meal, information about the prisoners as well as all of the letter-writing materials and prisoner-letter-writing info you could ever want to use in one evening. In return, you write a thoughtful letter to a political prisoner or prisoner of war of your choosing or, better yet, keep up a long-term correspondence. We’ll also provide some brief updates and pass around birthday cards for the PP/POWs whose birthdays fall in the next two weeks thanks to the PP/POW Birthday Calendar.

30th Avenue Stop: Walk on 31st Street toward 30th Avenue (away from 30th Drive), turning left on 30th Avenue. Walk three blocks and turn left on Crescent Street. We’re about a block down, on the right.
