BK/NY – Tuesday, October 15th – Come to a Green Scare(y) Halloween Card-Writing
WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, October 15th, 2019
WHERE: The Base – 1302 Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn, New York 11221 (directions below)
NOTE: The Base is on the ground floor, is wheelchair accessible, and has a gender neutral toilet.
COST: Free
It is 2019 and the US government’s war on environmental activists and animal liberationists is still being waged. A couple of years ago NYC ABC and Sacramento Prisoner Support responded with project FANG, a travel fund for earth and animal liberation prisoners and we have since provided funds to families and supporters to help ease the burden of visiting imprisoned loved ones.
With “Operation Backfire” defendant Joseph Dibee apprehended in Cuba and the continued imprisonment of Standing Rock water defenders, we are reminded of the backwards and arbitrary logic the State uses to deem who are “terrorists.” Corporate influence continues to drive policy, as recently seen in North Dakota where pipeline companies have pushed legislators to codify harsh punishment for actions such as “valve turning.” The truth is, those in power will always villainize those who seek to liberate and will always valorize those who seek to carry out real destruction.
In light of the coming holiday, we are sending Halloween cards to targets of the Green Scare as part of our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners.
Since the early 1980s, public relations hacks have been working to reify the term “eco-terrorism.” By 2004, they became successful and a phrase that a decade earlier had no real meaning was now defined by the United States government and used to introduce legislation. In the face of global ecologic destruction and animal torture, those who try to end the suffering are the ones labeled terrorists. Join us in letting the ones who have ultimately been captured know that they have not been forgotten. Read more…

It’s devastating that not even a month after Herman Bell was granted parole, the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), the mayor of New York City and the governor of New York all did their best to block it. Quite frustratingly, NYC ABC has been reminded that as quickly as the state can give us a big win, they can swiftly take it away. Or put it on pause rather. We are crushed and cannot imagine how Herman, his family and closest friends must feel. Our hearts go out to them.
NYC ABC encourages everyone to do one (if not all) of these action items to help bring Herman home:
- CALL New York State Governor Cuomo’s Office at 518-474-8390
- EMAIL New York State Governor Cuomo’s Office. You can use this form.
- TWEET at Governor Cuomo. You can use the following sample tweet:“.@NYGovCuomo: stand by the Parole Board’s lawful & just decision to release Herman Bell. At 70 years old and after more than 40 years of incarceration, his release is overdue. #BringHermanHome.”
On a happier note, this week we will be taking the time to write to all the folks who have birthdays coming up in the next couple of weeks.
If for some reason you aren’t able to make it, please take the time to send these folks a birthday card.

The deal, as always, is that you come bringing only yourself (and your friends and comrades), and we provide you with a delicious vegan meal, information about the prisoners as well as all of the letter-writing materials and prisoner-letter-writing info you could ever want to use in one evening. In return, you write a thoughtful letter to a political prisoner or prisoner of war of your choosing or, better yet, keep up a long-term correspondence. We’ll also provide some brief updates and pass around birthday cards for the PP/POWs whose birthdays fall in the next two weeks thanks to the PP/POW Birthday Calendar.

It is 2016 and the US government’s war on environmental activists and animal liberationists is still being waged. NYC ABC and Sacramento Prisoner Support have responded with project FANG, a travel fund for earth and animal liberation prisoners.
With Tyler Lang and Kevin Olliff recently moved to halfway houses, the imprisonment of Joseph Buddenberg, and the impending trial of Nicole Kissane, we are reminded of the backwards and arbitrary logic the State uses to deem who are “terrorists.” The truth is, those in power will always villainize those who seek to liberate and valorize those who seek to carry out real destruction.

WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, October 28th, 2014
WHERE: CAGE – 83A Hester Street (UPSTAIRS) New York, New York 10002 (directions below)

Well, here we are, saddened. Another space in NYC is closing. We’ve been fortunate to call CAGE home to our every-other-week Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinners for over two years. So we thank them for providing us space to support political prisoners and hope they find a new home soon.
In light of the coming holiday, we are sending Halloween cards to targets of the Green Scare.
Since the early 1980s, public relations hacks have been working to reify the term “eco-terrorism.” By 2004, they became successful and a phrase that a decade earlier had no real meaning was now defined by the United States government and used to introduce legislation. Now we have comrades serving decades for economic sabotage and allegations of thought crime. With several recent animal liberation actions, and Tyler Lang & Kevin Olliff being tried as terrorists, it is clear that Earth and animal liberationists are both still active and still in the cross-hairs of the feds. Join us in letting them know they are not forgotten.
