We’ve finished the latest version of the NYC ABC “Illustrated Guide to Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War” and it’s available for viewing (and download) by clicking on the tab at the top of this page. This update includes updated mini-bios, photos, and address changes for several prisoners. Unfortunately, we are adding a prisoner to the guide this month–Water Protector Dion Ortiz. We are thankful to remove Robert Seth Hayes (released on parole!) and Nicole Kissane (completion of sentence!).

NYC/NYE – Noise Demo Against the Prison Industrial Complex, In Solidarity with PPs and POWs

BRING: Noisemakers, air horns, drums, anything that is loud!

On the noisiest night of the year in New York City, come help us remind folks locked up that they are not alone. NYC Anarchist Black Cross, in response to an international call for noise demonstrations outside of prisons, is asking folks to join us outside of the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in lower Manhattan. Come, not to appeal to authority, speak truth to power, or any other contrivance, but rather to stand arm in arm with comrades and show direct solidarity to those on the other side of the wall.

The state, writ large, is targeting anarchists all across the United States and abroad. This will be both protest and celebration. To keep the cold at bay, comrades from MACC will be on hand with cookies and hot cocoa to keep the vocal cords nice and warm.

In light of the coming holiday, NYC ABC is sending Halloween cards to targets of the Green Scare as part of our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners. We will also have hot off the presses copies of the 2018 Certain Days: Freedom For Political Prisoners calendars available. The theme of this year’s calendar is Awakening Resistance.

Since the early 1980s, public relations hacks have been working to reify the term “eco-terrorism.” By 2004, they became successful and a phrase that a decade earlier had no real meaning was now defined by the United States government and used to introduce legislation. In the face of global ecologic destruction and animal torture, those who try to end the suffering are the ones labeled terrorists. Join us in letting the ones who have ultimately been captured know that they have not been forgotten.

Each year, June 11th serves as an international day of solidarity with Marius Mason and long term anarchist prisoners.  The June 11th collective has spent the past couple of weeks interviewing various folks doing direct support work for some of the prisoners featured on this day, including Eric King, Jeremy Hammond, the Cleveland 4, Nicole Kissane & Joseph Buddenberg, among others.  You can check those out and give them a listen here!

Join NYC ABC this Tuesday to write cards to these folks to let them know we’re thinking about them.

For only the third time in over a decade, NYC ABC is not hosting our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinner. With public transportation shut down, we would rather folks stay safe and store up some energy to write more folks in the coming weeks. In the meantime, look through our Illustrated Guide to Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War and use the snow day to reach out to imprisoned comrades.

Alright. It’s been 48 days, 10 hours and 34 minutes since the cheeto was inaugurated. Although many of us were working on the ground and in the streets long before that, no doubt efforts and numbers have increased since. The March 8th International Women’s Strike was no exception. Not only were there thousands of folks in attendance, but it seemed as though many of the groups doing the good work here in NYC had a contingent marching.  Of course that included us anarchists marching alongside NYC Antifa and it was incredible to feel as though the march successfully represented working class, militant, and POC women, queers, and trans people. Join us Tuesday as NYC ABC continues celebrating International Women’s Day in that vein and write the female identifying political prisoners held captive here in the United States.

We’ll be sharing the stories of and writing to Debbie Africa, Janet Africa, Janine Africa, Red Fawn Fallis, Nicole Kissane, Chelsea Manning, and Rev. Joy Powell.

The beginning of 2017 has been certainly and unquestionably dark. However, it hasn’t all been awful. In addition to the inspiring work that is coming from our comrades across the country in preparation of the days to come, we have also been given moments of joyous relief. 2017 saw the retiring of the “dumpster fire” meme and has raised it to the way better limo fire; white supremacist Richard Spencer’s face met a fist to your favorite tunes; and you get to continue joining NYC ABC for dinner as we support political prisoners. This week we are writing to the newly imprisoned Nicole Kissane.

In July, 2015, Nicole was indicted under the federal Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA). The indictment cites specific vandalism of fur stores and the liberation of thousands of mink and other fur-bearing animals, claiming that Nicole, along with her co-defendant Joseph Buddenberg, released mink and vandalized businesses that used animal products throughout the summer and fall of 2013; drove over 40,000 miles to free almost 7,000 mink from farms in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Minnesota; and did more than $400,000 worth of damage. In early 2016, both signed non-cooperating plea agreements and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. Just recently, Nicole was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison.

While all people in prison need as much love from the outside as you can give them, we acknowledge that folks who are newly incarcerated can particularly use as much mail as possible to help them make the transition to being in prison. With that in mind, if you can’t join us this Tuesday, please write to Nicole from wherever you are that doesn’t include us and our delicious vegan food:

It is 2016 and the US government’s war on environmental activists and animal liberationists is still being waged. NYC ABC and Sacramento Prisoner Support have responded with project FANG, a travel fund for earth and animal liberation prisoners.

With Tyler Lang and Kevin Olliff recently moved to halfway houses, the imprisonment of Joseph Buddenberg, and the impending trial of Nicole Kissane, we are reminded of the backwards and arbitrary logic the State uses to deem who are “terrorists.” The truth is, those in power will always villainize those who seek to liberate and valorize those who seek to carry out real destruction.
