NYC/NYE – Noise Demo Against the Prison Industrial Complex, In Solidarity with PPs and POWs

noise demo flyerWHAT: Noise Demo Against the PIC, for the Liberation of PPs + POWs
WHEN: 9:00pm, Tuesday, December 31st
WHERE: Metropolitan Correction Center (MCC, the federal prison in downtown Manhattan); Pearl Street, between Cardinal Hayes Place and Park Row (J to Chambers Street or 4/5/6/ to City Hall)
BRING: Noisemakers, air horns, drums, anything that is loud!

On the noisiest night of the year in New York City, come help us remind folks locked up that they are not alone. NYC Anarchist Black Cross, in response to an international call for noise demonstrations outside of prisons, is asking folks to join us outside of the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in lower Manhattan. Come, not to appeal to authority, speak truth to power, or any other contrivance, but rather to stand arm in arm with comrades and show direct solidarity to those on the other side of the wall.

The state, writ large, is targeting anarchists all across the United States and abroad. This will be both protest and celebration. To keep the cold at bay, comrades from MACC will be on hand with cookies and hot cocoa to keep the vocal cords nice and warm.

david_campbell_netsA couple of months ago, we broke the shocking story of how the United States is founded on white supremacy and to this day brutally punishes those who resist it (NOTE: sadly, this was not breaking news, but has been known and allowed to continue since this country’s inception). With this week’s every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinner, NYC ABC is focusing on David Campbell, a local to this city who showed up to protest the status quo of the far right and it now serving 18 months in Rikers Island.

David Campbell is a lover of language and the arts, who was two weeks away from moving to Paris to study French translation when his dedication to combat the alt-right drew him to a protest. At the protest a brawl broke out in which a 56-year-old intoxicated alt-right man was knocked unconscious. Cops stepped in and broke David’s leg in two places. When cops injure someone, it is common to overcharge the person in an attempt to justify such actions and that’s what happened to David. Video surveillance later failed to serve as useful evidence for the prosecution, so they dropped the charges. However, rather than let this case be done, and in some blatant “both sides-ist” bullshit, the District Attorney’s office filed gang assault charges against David. Faced with the prospect of losing at trial and being sent upstate, with its known problems of white power gangs and white supremacist prison guards, David took a non-cooperating plea agreement. Under this agreement, David is able to serve 18 months at Rikers Island, with no additional parole or supervised release after the fact.

If for whatever reason you are not able to join us, please write to David:
