portland antifa 2019Hey guys! Are you ready to hear something literally crazy? Guess who the United States government and its flunkies in various state and local police departments are targeting to punish with potentially decades in prison. No, not billionaire capitalists and corrupt politicians (even when they are the same person). No, the state is laser focused on individual anti-racists and antifascists with the audacity to stand up against bigotry and systematized white supremacy. A not-too-deep reading of the history of this country reveals that it is founded, and relies, on white supremacy. So don’t expect the state to eat itself, ouroboros style. So until we can collectively push the twin monsters of the state and capital over the goddamned cliff, NYC ABC will support those folks trying to do just that–political prisoners and POWs. This Tuesday’s political prisoner letter-writing dinner will focus on Gage Halupowski, currently jailed for alleged actions in Portland, Oregon. NOTE: Gage is awaiting trial, so please do not write about anything illegal, overtly political, or likely to be used against him if it shows up in a court transcript. For tips on writing to prisoners, see nycabc.wordpress.com/write-a-letter

We expect to see you on Tuesday. If you can’t make it, please take the time to write a letter to Gage:

BK/NY – Tuesday July 18th – Letter Writing Dinner for International Antifa Prisoners

WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, July 18th, 2017
WHERE: The Base1302 Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn, New York 11221 (directions below)

NOTE: The Base is on the ground floor, is wheelchair accessible, and has a gender neutral toilet.
COST: Free

As a response to the call for solidarity with international antifascist political prisoners, NYC ABC is focusing this week’s letter-writing dinner on those folks imprisoned for actions taken in the name of anti-fascism or anti-racism. We will have cards to sign, not to mention a delicious meal, as we’ve been known for providing for over ten years.

From NYC Antifa: The July 25 International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners originated in 2014 as the Day of Solidarity with Jock Palfreeman, an Australian man serving a 20-year sentence in Bulgaria for defending two Romani men being attacked by fascist football hooligans. Whether acting as individuals or as part of larger organized demonstrations, this is the kind of bravery and solidarity which defines antifascist actions against the forces of hate. Since the day of solidarity last year, we have seen this spirit all over the world—in Indonesia, Czech Republic, Brazil, Poland, England, Greece, the United States, France, Syria, Australia, Japan and all points in between.

While antifascism is global, unfortunately so is state repression. In the United States, hundreds of antifa have been arrested resisting both the Trump regime as well as Far Right street forces. In Belarus, the state continues to harshly repress antifascist resistance. While many of these comrades are awaiting sentences, there are still many who languish in prison. We will not forget these comrades behind prison walls!

We call on anti-fascists worldwide to act in solidarity with antifascist prisoners. They are in there for us, and we are out here for them!

As an anarchist collective, NYC ABC opposes capitalism, the state, and all forms of oppression. Naturally, this includes totalitarianism and fascism. So when the call for an international day of solidarity with anti-fascist prisoners was made, we answered. Our next every-other-week letter-writing dinner will be dedicated to sending cards to folks imprisoned for the actions they have taken in the name of fighting the spread of fascism around the world. From the call for solidarity:

Antifascists are on the front lines in the fight against these fascist and other Far Right nationalist nightmares. In the U.S. we have already seen a large increase in antifa arrests at increasingly confrontational demonstrations against KKK and similar rallies. Internationally, there has also been an increase in street confrontations, and unfortunately this means more repression by the State. We will not allow our comrades—surrounded by steel cages and concrete walls—to be forgotten.”

If you are unable to make it to our dinner, but want to write to the prisoners, please reference this list complied by NYC Antifa.

BK/NY – Saturday, July 25th – International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners!

WHAT: Cinema, Snacks, and Solidarity
WHEN: 7:00-11:00pm, Saturday, July 25th
WHERE: The Base1302 Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn, New York 11221 (directions below)

NOTE: The Base is on the ground floor, is wheelchair accessible, and has a gender neutral toilet.
COST: Free, but donations are appreciated.
Antifascists fight against those who—in the government or in the streets, dream of imposing their fascist and other Far Right nationalist nightmares on the rest of us. Throughout the world, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, and racist bigotries are on the rise. Antifas are on the frontline in confronting these reactionary politics, and we will not forget our comrades imprisoned in the course of this struggle.

The July 25 International Day of Solidarity with Antifascist Prisoners originated in 2014 as a Day of Solidarity with Jock Palfreeman, an Australian who is imprisoned in Bulgaria for defending two Romani men from an attack by fascist football hooligans. Groups around the world took action: holding demonstrations, benefits supporting the Bulgarian Prisoners Association, writing to Jock, and talking about the plight of the Romani and Sinti people in general.

In 2015, the day has been expanded and extends solidarity to all antifascist prisoners around the world. We encourage groups to take the day to plan an event of their choice—whether it is a letter writing, demonstration, benefit, or other action—and to focus on the prisoners and related issues that are of most importance to them locally.

In NYC, we’ll show support with the following:
Cinema (Watch Nazis get what’s coming to them!)
Snacks (Delicious & Vegan!)
Speakers (Short & Sweet! Learn about anti-fascist movements from around the world and the comrades in jail for fighting the good fight!)
Solidarity (Sign cards that we will send to all antifa prisoners!)

No Pasaran!
Until All Are Free!
