BK/NY – Sunday, January 5th – Gateway To Hell Winter Tour Comes To The Base

WHAT: Campaign workshop presented by The Bunny Alliance
WHEN: 6:00pm, Sunday, January 5th
WHERE: The Base1302 Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn, New York 11221 (Directions below)
COST: Free, but donations are appreciated.

nyc_eventThe Bunny Alliance is expanding the reach of the Gateway to Hell campaign, which is strategically working towards an end to the use of animals in research by stopping the transport of animals to laboratories. For their stop in Brooklyn, NYC ABC is co-hosting a workshop for folks to familiarize themselves with the campaign. It’s happening at The Base.

From The Bunny Alliance:
“We are targeting Delta Air Lines because it is in a strategic partnership with Air France and is its North America representative—and Air France is one of the last commercial airlines to continue the practice of shipping animals to labs. The campaign against Delta Air Lines is to demand that they force Air France to place a permanent ban on the transportation of all animals being shipped to vivisection labs across the world. It is vital that we stop these shipments of animals, and Delta Air Lines is in a position of authority to influence and enforce an Air France ban on shipments of animals to labs.

This demonstrations are part of our larger U.S. tour against Delta Air Lines. Please come out to the demonstrations at the airports, then come meet the organizers and learn more about the campaign and how to get involved at the workshop at The Base co-hosted with the NYC Anarchist Black Cross!”

Environmental activist and community organizer Marie Mason is serving the longest sentence ever (22 years) for environmentally motivated property destruction. In 2010 she was transferred to the notorious high security prison FMC Carswell.

Now we’re mobilizing to get her moved.

On Monday, October 21st, people across the country and world will keep the Bureau of Prisons office ringing off the hook demanding she be moved. We need your help to make the 21st the day we forced the BOP to take notice.

There are multiple ways to join in on the action: Read more…

NYC – Tuesday, September 17th – Letter-Writing for Tyler Lang and Kevin Olliff

WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, September 17th, 2013
WHERE: CAGE83A Hester Street (UPSTAIRS) New York, New York 10002 (directions below)
COST: Free

tyler and kevinIt’s been a busy couple of weeks since our last political prisoner letter-writing dinner. We hosted Running Down the Walls 2013 and folks from our collective attended a North American Anarchist Black Cross conference in Colorado. Meanwhile, Raytheon the United States government continues to try and convince the world that plans to bomb Syria are justified and desirable. In this same period of time, two Los Angeles animal rights activists were arrested in rural Illinois for “possession of burglary tools.” And it is on these two NYC ABC focuses our next dinner.

After a traffic stop in which they refused consent to a police search, Tyler Lang and Kevin Olliff‘s car was searched anyway. Inside, police allege they found bolt cutters, wire cutters, muriatic acid, ski masks, and camouflage clothing.

Police believed these items were “burglary tools” intended to be used in a crime, and arrested Kevin and Tyler. The two are held on felony charges which carry up to 3 years in prison. They have remained in jail since their arrest on August 14th.

There is no evidence linking them to any crime or intended crime, nor were they arrested on anyone’s property, and their history as animal advocates is the only basis for these serious felony charges. A recent call-in campaign on their behalf resulted in threats of further punishments.

If for some nutty reason you can’t make it out, but still want to support Tyler and Kevin, you can write to them at:

NYC – Tuesday, June 11th – Letter-writing to Marie Mason and Eric McDavid

WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, June 11th, 2013
WHERE: CAGE83A Hester Street (UPSTAIRS) New York, New York 10002 (directions below)
COST: Free20130605-141948.jpgBetween wild asses getting wild against the state in Sweden, Turkey and Greece, it looks like we will be heading into a very hot summer. It’s only through working together to pull this motherfucker down that we’re getting anywhere, and it’s time again to support the folks who have tried to do just that. The simple way NYC ABC does that is through every-other-week letter-writing dinners.

This week, in honor of the call for a June 11th International Day of Solidarity with Marie Mason and Eric McDavid, we will be sending letters to them. If you don’t already know about either Eric or Marie, they are the two folks targeted under the Green Scare who face the longest sentences, around twenty years each.

If, for some crazy reason, you can’t join us, please write to Marie and Eric from home:

NYC – 8 Jan – Card-signing for international prisoners

WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, January 8th, 2013
WHERECAGE – 83A Hester Street New York, New York 10002 (directions below)
COST: Free
First: Happy New Year! If you didn’t get a chance to come to the New Year’s Eve noise demonstration we organized, please take the time to read this reportback. To hear nearly 100 people calling out the names of comrades locked behind the walls of the Metropolitan Correctional Center was motivating. So much so, in fact, that folks had to take that energy into the streets. And much of that energy still lingers, pushing us to continue the work of supporting our comrades who are still in prison. By now, you probably know that one way we do that is through every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners. We’ve lost count, but this week’s dinner will be about the 140th we’ve hosted. This week we are focusing on the international anarchist, earth, and animal liberation prisoners.

Here in the states, folks are being persecuted for possibly even associating with anarchists or animal liberationists. Around the globe, the state and capital collude in much the same way, and as a result rebels are imprisoned for acting on their desire for a free world. Please join us in sending cards to these imprisoned comrades. We’ll see you at supper!

BK/NY – Tuesday, February 28th – Letter-Writing for Victor VanOrden

WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, February 28th, 2012
WHERE: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
COST: Free
Liberation is in the mouths of comrades worldwide. We speak and scream it and push for its arrival. And yet it eludes us.  The minions of state and capital push back and it is within the context of this conflict that we host another of our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners. This week we are writing to someone unwilling to accept symbolic action in the name of liberation as a replacement for direct liberation.

Earlier this month, Victor VanOrden was sentenced to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted burglary and one count of “releasing an animal from an animal facility.” Victor was arrested on October 10th, 2011 while allegedly trying to free mink from a mink ranch near Stone State Park in Iowa.

If for some reason you can’t make it out, but still want to support Victor, you can write to him at:

BK/NY – Tuesday, January 17th – Letter-Writing to Jordan Halliday and Mandy Hiscocks

What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, January 17th, 2012
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free

And so comes 2012. Last time, we wrote about carrying energy and momentum into the new year, and here in NYC, it appears folks have answered that call. As the city builds toward a May Day General Strike, there is a lot of work to put in, including how to stay safe, especially in light of the machinations that put six comrades in prison following the 2010 Toronto G20. Speaking of…one of these comrades was remanded on January 13th. For this week’s political prisoner letter-writing night, we’ll be writing to her and to grand jury resister Jordan Hallliday, who was arrested and forced to start a ten month sentence well before his expected report date.

On January 10th, Federal Marshalls took Jordan to the Davis County jail for supposedly violating his parole by allegedly associating with folks who are vegan and straight edge– yes, a condition of his bail was that he could not associate with people who abstain from drugs and alcohol and are also vegan. After a successful call-in campaign, Jordan was finally given food he can eat and is now serving ten months for criminal contempt of a grand jury. He has already served time for civil contempt in regards to the same grand jury inquisition.

We are also writing to another of the 2010 Toronto G20 “Main Conspiracy” prisoners, Mandy Hiscocks. As we wrote when the first of these folks began their sentences, this case shows both the potential strength of revolutionaries working together and the depths of depravity to which the state will go to maintain itself and the economic system to which it remains beholden. For more information, watch this interview and continue to follow up by visiting Conspire to Resist and Guelph Anarchist Black Cross.

If for some insane reason you can’t make it out, but still want to support the prisoners, you can write to them at:

BK/NY – Tuesday, October 25th – Come to a Green Scare(y) Halloween Card-Writing

What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm (sharp), Tuesday, October 25th, 2011
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free

Free Them All!

As problematic as the language of “occupation” is in a nation that continues to occupy stolen land, a movement is spreading. From Rome to Oakland, comrades are making it clear that unless there is conflict with the state and capital, the so-called occupations are merely camp-outs. And on the ground, it is clear that folks are willing to physically defend the spaces they have built together. There is a lot to be inspired by and plenty of reason to become directly involved. It is in the spirit of direct involvement (and the magick of Halloween) that we host another Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner. And what could be more ghoulish than the Green Scare?

Since the early 1980s, public relations hacks have been working to reify the term “eco-terrorism.” By 2004, they became successful and a phrase that a decade earlier had no real meaning was now defined by the United States government and used to introduce legislation. Now we have comrades serving decades for economic sabotage and allegations of thought crime. With two folks recently arrested and Walter Bond sentenced to another seven years, it is clear that Earth and animal liberationists are both still active and still in the cross-hairs of the feds. Join us in letting them know they are not forgotten.

The deal, as always, is that you come bringing only yourself (and your friends and comrades), and we provide you with a delicious vegan meal, information about the prisoners as well as all of the letter-writing materials and prisoner-letter-writing info you could ever want to use in one evening. In return, you write a thoughtful letter to a political prisoner or prisoner of war of your choosing or, better yet, keep up a long-term correspondence. We’ll also provide some brief updates and pass around birthday cards for the PP/POWs whose birthdays fall in the next two weeks thanks to the Anarchist Birthday Brigade.

DIRECTIONS:
Getting to 885 Park Avenue is simple:
From the J/M/Z:
Flushing Stop: Walk southeast on Broadway (toward Sumner Place, away from Thornton Street) and make a right on Park Avenue. We’re halfway down the block, on your right.
Myrtle Stop: Walk northwest on Broadway (toward Melrose Street, away from Troutman Street) and make a left on Park Avenue. We’re halfway down the block on the right.

From the G Train:
Flushing Avenue Stop: Walk south on Marcy Avenue (toward Hopkins Street, away from Wallabout Street) and turn left on Park Avenue. We’re three and a half blocks down on the left.
Myrtle-Willoughby Avenues Stop: Walk north on Marcy Avenue (toward Stockton Street, away from Vernon Avenue) and turn right on Park Avenue. We’re three and a half blocks down on your left.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch. Otherwise, we’ll see you at supper.

This event is brought to you by your friendly neighborhood Anarchist Black Cross.–

BK/NY – Tuesday, September 27th – Come Support A.L.F. Lone Wolf Walter Bond

Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)

Support Walter

Here we are, not a full week into Autumn, and the streets are brimming with dissent. The state murdered Troy Davis; prisoners in California, facing severe repression, are planning to resume a hunger strike; and, locally, comrades have been arrested and brutalized by the NYPD.The pendulum is swinging and we in NYC ABC are having another letter-writing dinner to support those who continue to push that motherfucker until the string snaps. This week, we need you to come and write letters to the judge getting ready to sentence a warrior named Walter Bond.

In 1998, Bond was convicted of burning down the home and meth operation of a multi-million dollar drug dealer that was selling poison to his family and friends. In the Summer of 2010, based on information provided to the FBI by his brother, Walter was arrested for the “ALF Lonewolf” arsons of the Sheepskin Factory in Denver, Colorado, the Tandy Leather Factory in Salt Lake City, Utah and the Tiburon Restaurant, which sold Foie Gras in Sandy, Utah. Walter was sentenced to five years in federal prison for the first of these actions and now awaits sentencing for the remaining two.

Walter has written extensively about his history and philosophy and we encourage folks to take the time to read him.

Sentencing is set for Thursday, October 13th, 2011 and we are requesting you write a letter to Judge Ted Stewart, requesting the minimum sentence for Walter. Your letter will help to give a three dimensional and personal perspective on the positive character attributes Walter possesses and how highly he is valued by his friends and associates. The judge who presided over Walter’s case in Denver made a point to say that she read over 50 letters sent from people like you before handing down the minimum penalty.

If you are unable to join us, please write a letter to the judge and mail it to:

Nathan Crane, Esq.
Stirba & Associates
215 South State Street, Suite 750
Salt Lake City, Utah 84111

IMPORTANT: DO NOT MAIL THE LETTER DIRECTLY TO JUDGE STEWART.

Address a formal business letter to:
The Honorable Judge Ted Stewart
United States District Court
District Of Utah
Chamber #148
350 South Main Street
Salt Lake City, Utah 84101

Include your address and the date. The salutation is, “Dear Judge Stewart:” and the reference is “United States of America v. Walter Bond.” Tell Judge Stewart why you think Walter Bond deserves his leniency. By doing this, you will actually increase Walter’s chances of a receiving the minimum.

Keep Walter informed by sending him a copy of your letter. Walter’s mailing address is:

Walter Bond #2011-03339
Davis County Jail
Post Office Box 130
Farmington, Utah 84025-0130
