BK/NY – Saturday, November 16th – State Violence and Crowd Control in France

Interv_USAJoin NYC ABC as we host a member of Let’s Disarm Them! to describe the workings of state violence and the evolution of policing in France, from a historical and radical perspective.

The collective Let’s Disarm Them! was founded in 2012 by anarchists who for several years have faced state violence and been directly affected by the use of grenades and rubber bullets.

Between 2011 and 2015, Let’s Disarm Them! took part in major radical anti-capitalist and ecological struggles. During this time the collective met other groups opposed to police violence; street medics; but also many victims–themselves mutilated or close to people killed by the police.

At the end of 2014, Let’s Disarm Them! participated in the building of a national network of mutilated people, the “Assembly of the Wounded.”

The state of emergency decreed at the end of 2015 after the attacks of Charlie Hebdo and Bataclan fundamentally transformed French society and the militarization of the public space accelerated through 2018, which coincided with a sharp rise of the far right.

Members of the collective have been under house arrest and on numerous occasions; prohibited from demonstrating, arrested and “brought to justice.”

The revolts against the labor reform and those of the Yellow Vests between 2016 and 2019 were harshly repressed. Many people have been injured, mutilated and imprisoned.

We are excited to learn from members of Let’s Disarm Them and share strategies for resisting repression together. Join us!

Getting to The Base is simple:
From the M Train:
Central Avenue Stop: Walk east on Myrtle Avenue (away from Hart Street, toward Cedar Street). We’re about two blocks down on the south side of the street.

Knickerbocker Avenue Stop: Walk west on Myrtle Avenue (away from Harman Street, toward Himrod Street). We’re about three blocks down on the south side of the street.

From the L Train:
DeKalb Avenue Stop: Walk south on Stockholm Street (away from Wyckoff Avenue, toward Irving Avenue). We’re about four blocks down, at the intersection of Stockholm Street and Myrtle Avenue.

From the J Train:
Myrtle Avenue Stop: Transfer to the M train and follow the above directions.
