Letter-writing In Bed-Stuy: (Green) Scary Halloween Card-signing

NYC ABC has been hosting every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners for over two and a half years. Come Halloween, we send cards to our friends and comrades targeted by the government in its ongoing repression of militant animal and Earth Liberationists.

Join us Tuesday at 7 pm for scrumptious vegan dinner, treats and perhaps a few tricks as we craft Halloween and/or Samhain cards designed to scare the pants off Earth Liberation and Animal Liberation political prisoners caught up in the Green Scare. NOTE: We’ll be hosting this event in Bed-Stuy at 885 Park Avenue, Apartment 3B (at Broadway).

The Green Scare, alluding to the Red Scares of the last century, describes a sweep of arrests, convictions and grand jury indictments of Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Animal Liberation Front (ALF) operatives on charges relating to acts of property damage, conspiracy, arson and use of destructive devices.

To be scarier than this type of government repression and help usher in the darker half of the year this holiday marks, these cards will likely feature a motley crew of ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, ghouls, demons, witches, goblins, vampires, werewolves, zombies, mummies, pirates, skeletons, black cats, spiders, bats, owls, crows and vultures. Drawing skills and costumes are optional, but encouraged; glitter is apparently too dangerous and fabulous to be allowed in prison so you can leave that at home.

If you are unable to make it to this event, please consider taking the time to write to one or more of the following prisoners:

In return, you write a thoughtful message to a political prisoner or prisoner of war of your choosing or, better yet, keep up a long-term correspondence.
