BK/NY – Tuesday, July 5th – Come Support Anti-Police Violence Prisoner Christopher Monfort
What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm (sharp), Tuesday, July 5th, 2011
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free
Well, we’re not too surprised if you aren’t out eating barbecue and celebrating the supposed independence of the country we’re living in. It shouldn’t be long before there’s a holiday a month that can be reduced down to waving the flag and shedding a single tear for the sentimental myth of how great this nation is. The state and capital still keep the yoke tightly around our necks, making sure we nurse from the teat of misinformation that is corporate media. Many of us remain placated or worse, rabidly defending the lies with which we’re consistently bombarded. Others, however, see through the bullshit, resolute in our determination to upend the whole rotten system. With that in mind, NYC ABC is hosting another of our every-other-week Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinners. This week we’ll be writing to anti-police violence soldier Christopher Monfort.
In 2009, Christopher Monfort allegedly waged a one man war against the Seattle Police Department.
On October 22, 2009, police vehicles parked in a vehicle maintenance yard in Seattle were firebombed. Several vehicles were destroyed and many damaged in the action. A communique was issued days later tying the incident to the beating of a young girl held in custody by Seattle Police.
Less that two weeks later, on October 31, 2009, Seattle police officer Timothy Brenton was killed and his partner, Britt Sweeney, was wounded. According to the Seattle police, Brenton was sitting in the passenger seat of a patrol car with Sweeney discussing a just completed traffic stop when a vehicle pulled alongside the patrol car and an occupant opened fire. Officer Brenton was instantly killed . Sweeney was grazed in the back by one shot, but able to get out of the patrol car, return fire at the fleeing vehicle, and call for additional units.
During the investigation, detectives and officers linked Monfort’s car to the crime, and attempted to arrest him at his apartment. When officers arrived, Monfort is alleged to have pulled a gun and opened fire. Monfort was shot by police and is now paralyzed as a result of the alleged confrontation.
Since the start of court proceedings, Monfort has been doggedly outspoken about the role of police in society, specific instances of police violence, and has consistently called on other people in the United States to confront police terror in their communities and use armed tactics to do so if necessary.
Monfort’s court proceedings are ongoing and his fate is unclear. He can use any and all support available. He is now facing the death penalty in Washington state for his alleged actions.
We expect to see you on Tuesday. If you can’t make it, please take the time to write a letter to Christopher at:
Christopher John Monfort #209040021
500 Fifth Avenue
Seattle , Washington 98104
The deal, as always, is that you come bringing only yourself (and your friends and comrades), and we provide you with a delicious vegan meal, information about the prisoners as well as all of the letter-writing materials and prisoner-letter-writing info you could ever want to use in one evening. In return, you write a thoughtful letter to a political prisoner or prisoner of war of your choosing or, better yet, keep up a long-term correspondence. We’ll also provide some brief updates and pass around birthday cards for the PP/POWs whose birthdays fall in the next two weeks thanks to the Anarchist Birthday Brigade.

BK/NY – Tuesday, June 21st – Letter-Writing to Support Herman Bell
What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm (sharp), Tuesday, June 21st, 2011
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free
It was good to see folks who braved the rain to help support comrades at the June 11th barbecue we co-sponsored. Raffle tickets are still available and we’ll be having the drawing in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, we’re back on our grind, hosting another every-other-week letter-writing dinner.
This week we’re writing to a long-term prisoner held here in New York. Herman Bell is a former Black Panther framed for the murder of a police officer in New York and is serving 25 years to life in prison.
In 1971, he went underground because of relentless FBI attacks on the Black Panther Party. While underground, Herman was captured and extradited to New York on charges of having killed two New York City police officers. No witnesses were able to put Herman at the scene of the crime. The first trial ended in a hung jury and he was convicted at his second trial and given 25 years to life. For more information, make sure to read this mini-biography.
We expect to see you on Tuesday. If you can’t make it, please take the time to write a letter to Herman at:
Herman Bell # 79D0262

BK/NY – Tuesday, June 7th – Letter-Writing to Support Eric McDavid and Marie Mason
What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm (sharp), Tuesday, June 7th, 2011
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free
Between wild asses getting wild against rapist cops and an anarchist memorial day/flag burning that drew out NYPD’s TARU and intel units, this old city is feeling itself rather nicely. It’s only through working together to pull this motherfucker down that we’re getting anywhere, and it’s time again to support the folks who have tried to do just that. The simple way NYC ABC does that is through every-other-week letter-writing dinners.
This week, in honor of the call for a June 11th International Day of Solidarity with Marie Mason and Eric McDavid, we will be sending letters to them. If you don’t already know about either Eric or Marie, they are the two folks targeted under the Green Scare who face the longest sentences, around twenty years each.
If, for some crazy reason, you can’t join us, please write to Marie and Eric from home:
Marie Mason #04672-061
FMC Carswell
Post Office Box 27137
Fort Worth, Texas 76127
Eric McDavid #16209-097
FCI Victorville Medium II
Post Office Box 5300
Adelanto, California 92301

BK/NY – Tuesday, May 10th – Letter Writing for Alvaro Luna Hernandez
What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm (sharp), Tuesday, May 10th, 2011
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free
Do you ever feel like maybe, for once, you got just enough sleep? The world looks a little less miserable, life feels more…lifelike. Maybe it’s the weather in NYC, maybe there’s some well-worn metaphor about Spring, renewal, and new life that we should be carting out. Whatever it is, there’s work to be done and there’s no other time to do it. With that, we are hosting another of our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners.
This week we are focusing on Alvaro Luna Hernandez. Alvaro Luna Hernandez is a Chicano-Mexicano political prisoner sentenced to 50 years in prison for aggravated assault on a cop when he disarmed a sheriff attempting to shoot him.
Deeply effected by witnessing the murder of one of his friends by a known racist cop (yes, it’s redundant), Alvaro dedicated his life to fighting police brutality, especially as it was manifest against the Chicano community. From 1976 through 1990, Alvaro was falsely accused of murder (and after public outcry eventually released) and severely beaten by police, all the result of his work to end police brutality in Houston, Texas.
In 1996, Brewster County Sheriff Jack McDaniel came to Alvaro’s house, allegedly to arrest him for robbery (side note: the robbery charge was summarily dismissed). The cop didn’t have an arrest warrant and when Alvaro, unarmed, questioned the cop’s abuse of power, the cop pulled his gun. Before he could shoot, Alvaro disarmed the cop without injuring him, and fled.
Upon his capture, Alvaro was found guilty and sentenced to an unbelievable 50 years in prison. Since his imprisonment, he has been denied access to library materials, faced increasing censorship of his mail, and had to deal with retaliation from prison staff over his filing of grievances. A recent call-in campaign was announced to address these injustices.
If for some bizarre reason you can’t make it to dinner, please write to Alvaro from home. His address is:
Alvaro Luna Hernandez #255735
Hughes Unit
Route 2, Box 4400
Gatesville, Texas 76597

Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)

You’ve probably been working too many hours a week to even notice the full-blown war being waged against you by the ruling class. It is real and it is continuing. And of course there is another war– the war against folks imprisoned for their political beliefs and actions. And here’s where we bridge the two. This week, NYC ABC will be hosting our fourth annual May Day card-writing night. We will be sending greeting cards to anarchist political prisoners and there’s an easy (too easy? POSSIBLY!) way for you to help. Just come by, eat some food, sign some cards, maybe meet folks you don’t already know, and show some base level solidarity with those behind bars.
The deal, as always, is that you come bringing only yourself (and your friends and comrades), and we provide you with a delicious vegan meal, information about the prisoners as well as all of the letter-writing materials and prisoner-letter-writing info you could ever want to use in one evening. NYC: SAVE THE DATE – June 11th – International Day of Solidarity with Marie Mason and Eric McDavid

BK/NY – Tuesday, March 29th – Letter-Writing For Zolo Azania
What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm (sharp), Tuesday, March 29th, 2011
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free
Spring is upon us! Meanwhile, we will contain the urge to indulge a pun involving springing prisoners from behind bars. What we will we *not* contain, however, is the urge to cook delicious vegan food, and drum up correspondence for political prisoners.
This week we’ll be focusing on one of the longest held political prisoners in the United States, Zolo Azania. For decades, the State of Indiana was trying to kill Zolo for allegedly killing a cop during an armed robbery. However, Zolo’s innocence quickly became clear, on the basis on false evidence and two trials which excluded Black jurors. While in 2009, he finally won his battle to drop the death penalty, he still currently faces the prospect of life in prison for actions that he never committed. Come find out more about Zolo and other political prisoner news, and enjoy a meal with friends(new or old).
In the unthinkable event that you are not able to attend, below is Zolo’s address:
Zolo Azania #4969
Indiana State Prison
1 Park Row
Michigan City, Indiana 46360
The deal, as always, is that you come bringing only yourself (and your friends and comrades), and we provide you with a delicious vegan meal, information about the prisoners as well as all of the letter-writing materials and prisoner-letter-writing info you could ever want to use in one evening.
