BK/NY – Tuesday, February 28th – Letter-Writing for Victor VanOrden

WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, February 28th, 2012
WHERE: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
COST: Free
Liberation is in the mouths of comrades worldwide. We speak and scream it and push for its arrival. And yet it eludes us.  The minions of state and capital push back and it is within the context of this conflict that we host another of our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners. This week we are writing to someone unwilling to accept symbolic action in the name of liberation as a replacement for direct liberation.

Earlier this month, Victor VanOrden was sentenced to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted burglary and one count of “releasing an animal from an animal facility.” Victor was arrested on October 10th, 2011 while allegedly trying to free mink from a mink ranch near Stone State Park in Iowa.

If for some reason you can’t make it out, but still want to support Victor, you can write to him at:

2700 Coral Ridge Avenue

BK/NY – Tuesday, February 14th – Revolutionary Love For a Belated Valentine’s Day

WHAT: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
WHEN: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, February 14th, 2012
WHERE: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
COST: Free
This time last year, we were buried under ice, winter unrelenting. This year, we are feeling the warmth of a coming global spring. There’s a palpable tension between the authorities who keep cracking skulls and those rebels who continue to fight back. And for those rebels, still in the streets, or locked in a prison cell, we hold revolutionary love. With that love burning in our hearts, we host another of our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners.

This week we’re having a belated Valentine’s Day card writing party for PPs and POWs in the region. But rather than looking to a holiday based on Christian martyrs from millennia ago and kept alive through consumerism and romantic coupling, we’re celebrating revolutionary love and solidarity. We love our imprisoned comrades and use this week’s card-writing night to manifest that love.

BK/NY – Tuesday, January 31st – Letter-Writing to United Freedom Front Prisoners

What: Political Prisoner Letter-Writing Dinner
When: 7pm sharp, Tuesday, January 31st, 2012
Where: 885 Park Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (see below for directions)
Cost: Free

As we proceed to give you what you need…2012, the year of the black dragon, continues to show revolutionary potential, with folks in the streets from coast to coast feeling collective power and losing their fear of the cops. And as rebellion resonates around the world, we offer love, respect, and solidarity to those recently arrested and those who have been down for years. One practical way this solidarity have been manifested for nearly five years is through our every-other-week political prisoner letter-writing dinners. This week we are writing to two long-term anti-imperialist warriors, serving decades for their commitment to ending the global system of white supremacy.

Jaan Laaman and Tom Manning are anti-imperialist revolutionaries who were active in the United Freedom Front, a clandestine anti-imperialist organization. The UFF carried out targeted bombings of corporate buildings, courthouses and military facilities as well as bank robberies to fund revolutionary projects. Both men were deeply involved in anti South African apartheid organizing. Jaan is currently serving a 53 year sentence, while Tom was sentenced to 80 years.

If for some insane reason you can’t make it out, but still want to support the prisoners, you can write to them at:

Post Office Box 24550
Tuscon, Arizona 85734
